Note: The ocular inspection of Queen Margarette Hotel would be conducted prior to the meeting proper since the Hotel is located along the highway. All officers are to convene at the Hotel at 10am before proceeding to the meeting venue (Sacred Heart College).

We reckoned that a separate compiled posting of scheduled activities during 29th Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) as they are announce by various organizer/association is necessary for the general information of our colleagues as early as now so that they could make the necessary reservation/travel request, etc. It will also serve as a posting supplement to the Librarian Events for September 2008 we have been meticulously compiling.

4th Year Anniversary Raffle Draw Postponed

Last April 2008, the PLAI-STRLC announced the launching of its 4th Year Anniversary Raffle Activity with the draw date originally set on July 27, 2008, the Anniversary Date of PLAI-STRLC existence. During the 6th PLAI-STRLC Regular Meeting held at Batangas Provincial Library, the Council Officers decided after much deliberation to postpone the draw to September 26, 2008, to coincide with the 4th General Assembly of the association to be held in Lucena City. So that instead of only the Council Officers celebrating our Anniversary, registered librarians and friends of the library would also be present to share the momentous event.

Prizes at stake are as follows:

1st Prize: P3,000
2nd Prize: P2,000
3rd Prize: P1,000

plus 20 Consolation Prizes.

PLAI-STRLC 2008 Regional Conference and General Assembly

The Philippine Librarians Association Inc - Southern Tagalog Region Librarians Council (PLAI-STRLC) will hold its Regional Conference and General Assembly on September 24-26, 2008 at the Queen Margarette Hotel, Domoit Diversion Road, Lucena City, Quezon Province.

The theme for this year activity is Regional Conference on Empowering Librarians in the 21st Century.” It aims to stress the importance of the involvement of librarians in enabling students and its community to become critical thinkers and effective users of information in all formats and media; strengthen librarian's understanding of the library’s basic functions and how technology has changed these basic functions; and to empower the administrators, librarians, information professionals and teacher-librarians in conquering successfully the library challenges of the 21st century.

The topics include: ABC’s of Librarians’ Success in the Workplace; Personal and Professional Competencies; Library Administration and Management; Basic Library Functions and Services; Current Trends in Information Technology as Applied to Libraries.

The conference fees are as follows: Live – out: PHP 3000.00 for member*; PhP3300.00 for non-member; (to include lunches/snacks, conference kits and certificate); Live-in: PhP3900.00 for member; PhP 4200.00 for non-member (to include 3days and 2 nights accommodation, with breakfast/dinner, in addition to seminar meals). PLAI-STRLC Is Now SEC Registered

Last June 23, 2008, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved the application of PLAI-STRLC for SEC registration as non-stock, non-profit organization through the issuance of the Certification of Incorporation to PLAI Southern Tagalog Region Librarians Council, Inc. with Company Reg. No. CN200809428.

Kudos to the 2008 Council Officers who worked hard for this endeavor, special mention to Ms Charity Mahusay of San Sebastian College Recoletos de Cavite for taking time out of her busy schedule to facilitate the filing of the application.
