PLAI 2009 Congress on November 25-27, 2009

The Philippine Librarians Association Inc (PLAI) in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and National Committee on Library and Information Services (NCLIS) cordially invites you to the National Congress on "The Promotion of Environmental Sustainability through Libraries and Information Centers". The Congress will be held on November 25-27, 2009 at the Heritage Hotel, EDSA, Pasay City.

The Congress seeks to
  • Form public awareness on the importance of environmental sustainability and
  • Make Philippine libraries, Filipino librarians and information professionals more cognizant of their role in promoting environmental sustainability.
In addition, the Librarians Day and General Assembly will be on November 27, 2009 12:00 noon and 3:00 pm respectively.

The registration fee is Php3600 inclusive of kits, conference papers (in CD format), meals, certificates and Fellowship Luncheon Ticket (Librarians' Day).

For those attending the 2009 PLAI-STRLC Conference and General Assembly on October 7-9, 2009 at the Eastern Manila Hotel & Training Center with the theme: "Meeting the Challenges of Librarianship Across Barriers", please find below the vicinity map and some directions going there.


From Megamall or from Cubao, you can take a Jeepney or FX Taxi with signage: "Antipolo Simbahan". Tell the driver to drop you off at Beverly Hills. From Beverly Hills Subdivision, cross the street and you will see the Eastern Manila Development Center (formerly Las Brisas)

4th IFLA-FAIFE Cascading Activity in Batangas

The Librarians Association of Batangas (LAB) in cooperation with PLAI – Southern Tagalog Region Librarians Council (PLAI-STRLC) successfully hosted the last cascading activity at the Provincial level held last September 25, 2009 at the Multi-Media Center of University of Batangas, Hilltop Road, Batangas City. The activity was entitled Seminar-Workshop on “IFLA-FAIFE Internet Manifesto Trainers Workshop Project in the Philippines 2009” and Ratification of Librarians Association Batangas Constitution and By-Laws.

Participants were professional librarians and non-professional librarians working on both public and private libraries in the province of Batangas, and Mindoro. Around fifty (50) including LAB Officers participated in the said seminar-workshop.

PLAI-STRLC Videoconferencing with MRBatiancila


The PLAI-STRLC Board had a meeting with President Marcial R. Batiancila through videoconferencing a while ago. This is the second meeting that the PLAI-STRLC President joined the group regular meeting. First was during the August 11, 2009 meeting in Sta Cruz, Laguna via Yahoo Messenger. Fortunately, the connection and Sykpe set-up was earlier prepaid by host, De La Salle Lipa Librarian, Ms. Lilian Rabino, thus Mr. Batiancila was able to preside the meeting.

Incidentally, the meeting also coincides with Mr. Batiancila's Natal Day and viola a birthday cake arrived. Group picture followed after the meeting was adjourned.

PLAI-STRLC now a CPE provider

PLAI - Southern Tagalog Region Libarians Council received an email last 16 September 2009 from CPE Council Chairman, Ms. Elizabeth Parelejo informing the STRLC Board through Mr. Batiancila ,of the approval of the association's application as a continuing education provider for three (3) years during the CPE Council meeting last 1 September 2009. PLAI-STRLC Accreditation Number is 2009-019 with an expiration date of 02 September 2012.

Likewise, the application for the program accreditation entitled "Meeting the Challenges of Librarianship Across Barriers". (Click the theme to download the Updated Invitation with Pre-registration Form) which will be held from October 7-9, 2009 in Antipolo City has been approved and granted 15 CPE credit units with accreditation number 2009-019-027.

3rd IFLA-FAIFE Cascading Activity in Laguna


The Association of Laguna Librarians in cooperation with the PLAI-Southern Tagalog Region Librarians Council hosted the 3rd IFLA/FAIFE Internet Manifesto Cascading to the Provincial Level of STRLC last 18 September 2009 at Grade School Auditorium, University of Perpetual Help Laguna, Sto Niño, Biñan, Laguna.

The seminar-workshop aimed to disseminate and train libraries on the emerging role of Internet in today's information revolution and also to implement the IFLA-FAIFE Internet Manifesto in the province of Laguna

Participants were professional librarians and non-professional librarians working on both public and private libraries in the province of Laguna, Rizal and Batangas, as well as UPHL students. Around fifty (50) excluding the ALL Officers participated in the said seminar-workshop.

*Note: We are awaiting updates from the Rizal Librarians Association since they also hosted an IFLA/FAIFE Internet Manifesto Cascading to the Provincial Level of STRLC on the same date - 18 September 2009. LAQuep-LInc held 2nd IFLA-FAIFE IM Cascading to the Provincial Level


Librarians Association of Quezon Province-Lucena, Inc. (formerly QLA) in cooperation with the PLAI-Southern Tagalog Region Librarians Council conducted a one-day seminar-workshop last September 11, 2009 at the Hermano Puli Auditorium, 2nd Floor Katatagan Hall, Calayan Educational Foundation,Inc., Lucena City. This activity coincided with LAQuep-LInc's 3rd year anniversary and served as the 2nd IFLA/FAIFE Internet Manifesto Cascading to the Provincial Level of STRLC.

The seminar-workshop aimed to: enhance the personality of librarians in dealing with customers; strengthen the communication skills; and gain knowledge on revolutionizing information through the Internet Manifesto (IM).

Participants are professional librarians and non-professional librarians working on both public and private libraries in the province of Quezon, around sixty (60) excluding the LAQuep-LInc Officers participated in the said seminar-workshop.
