2012 Ramon Magsaysay Awardees

This year's Magsaysay Award winners will each receive a certificate, a medallion bearing the likeness of the late President, and a cash prize. They will be formally conferred the Magsaysay Award during Presentation Ceremonies to be held on 31 August 2012 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), to which the public is cordially invited.
I hope one day in the near future, a fellow Librarian will be named a Ramon Magsaysay Awardee.

Thank You

In behalf of the PLAI-STRLC National Conference Organizing Committee, we would like to say thank you to all our resource speakers, exhibitors, product presentors and most especially to all the participants from the provinces of Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Mindoro, Quezon, Rizal and the participant coming from Manila, Cebu, Nueva Vizcaya, Pampanga for the support extended, camaraderie, exchanges of ideas and best practices, among others.

Truly, the recently concluded National Conference live up to its history of the being conducted in the midst of   typhoon before, during or after the conference. It is even more challenging to the Organizing Committee due to the recent flooding of Metro Manila and nearby provinces continuously for a week that even during the conference the torrential rains continued but thankfully most of the resource speakers are able to come ahead of their scheduled time.

PLAI-STRLC Conference at TICC

Party-list for Librarians

The Philippine Group of Law Librarians, Inc (PGLL) a national organization of law librarians is sponsoring a forum on “ Party-List for Librarians and Information Professionals” during the Manila International Book Fair on Thursday, 13th September 2012 from 1:00am to 3:00pm at the SMX Convention Center (Meeting Rooms 2 & 3), Pasay City.

Party-list is a national, regional and sectoral parties or organizations or coalitions duly registered with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC). Sectoral representatives work for the special interest or concerns of their sector. There is a party-list for teachers, women, and even security guards that work and advanced their special concerns in Congress. We, librarians and information professionals have to explore this option to further advance the gains achieved by our respected elders in the professions.

A group of librarians have started to work for the formation of a Party-List. It is for this reason that we would like to invite all stakeholders in our beloved profession to attend the forum and give your feedbacks, suggestions, comments, support, etc. on how this movement could materialize.

Resources Speakers: Congressman Teodoro A. Casino and Michael A. Pinto

Forum Fee: P200 non-PGLL members, P150 –PGLL members and P100 for students.

See you there. Thank you.

Dear Librarians and Would-Be Librarians,

The Board for Librarians is conducting an online survey to determine whether there is a need to propose amendments to Republic Act 9246 and ultimately to increase the number of Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals in the country. Please take time to participate in this short survey which can be opened at this link http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/VKZFMCZ

Also, please share the survey with LIS professionals with no Internet access (by now there should be very few of them) and send the response to my email address.

Thank you.

Mila M. Ramos
Member, Board for Librarians
