UP FLIPP New Professional Series on CPD

In line with the objective of the New Professionals Special Interest Group (NPSIG) of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), UP FLIPP aims to create an avenue for the new professionals, namely Library and Information Science (LIS) students, LIS fresh graduates and LIS professionals of less than five (5) years of work experience or those relatively new to the profession, to talk over their concerns in the field as well as their motivations in pursuing Continuing Professional Development (CPD). This collaboration among the new professionals shall help to continuously promote the growth of LIS, to effectively respond to the changes in the field, and to provide the fresh and creative ideas for the advancement of the LIS profession. This distinct role of the new professionals is the heart of the New Professionals Series.

This event does not only include a conference but also an unconference to promote the collaboration among the new professionals. They shall be part of different discourses with reference to the factors that impede and stimulate them in pursuing professional growth in the field. Moreover, this conference shall introduce them to more professional networking opportunities and friendships.

Continuing its mission of spearheading the promotion and development of LIS, the University of the Philippines Future Library and Information Professionals of the Philippines (UP FLIPP) in partnership with the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. – National Capital Region Librarians Council (PLAI-NCRLC) and UP Diliman Main Library invites you to attend“New Professionals Series 2017” on March 4, 2017, Saturday at the Main Library lobby, Gonzalez Hall, University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City.

Five Laws of Media and Information Literacy

UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) have launched their Five Laws of Media and Information Literacy. Their strategy aims to bring together the fields of information literacy and media literacy into a combined set of knowledge, skills and attitudes required for living and working in the 21st century.
Media and Information Literacy recognizes the primary role of information and media in our everyday lives. It lies at the core of freedom of expression and information – since it empowers citizens to understand the functions of media and other information providers, to critically evaluate their content, and to make informed decisions as users and producer of information and media content.
