NOCEI Seminar on Archives Administration

The Library Committee of the Network of CALABARZON Educational Institutions (NOCEI), a non-stock, non-profit corporation which aims to promote cooperation and collaboration among private and public educational institutions in the Philippine provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon invites librarians, library administrators, school officials and supervisors to a seminar-workshop on Introduction to Archives Administration on February 16, 2007 at De La Salle Lipa College Library, Lipa City.

The seminar-workshop aims to equip participants the basic know-how on establishing and administering an archive. Registration fee is P300.00 to include food and seminar paraphernalia. PLAI Regional Blogs: STRLC, NCR, CVRLC

The PLAI- Southern Tagalog Region Librarians Council (PLAI-STRLC) as the first regional council to venture to the blogosphere world, welcomes the birth of new regional council blogs that help update our fellow librarians in the country as well as colleagues abroad of the happenings and activities of a particular PLAI regional council. The PLAI-National Capital Region blog was operational last December 2006 while the PLAI-Cagayan Valley Region Librarians Council blog was born January 2007.

We fervently hope that this new development will strengthen camaraderie and free exchange of relevant information amongst librarians in the 16 regions. This virtual presence bring us closer to one another and can work together to uplift the professionalism of librarianship in the country. (RBManlangit)

Crashed Program for non-passers and non-librarians

The Institute of Library and Information Science (ILIS) will hold a Crashed Program for non-passers of the Board Exam for Librarians and non-librarians working in the library with 18 units of Library Science taken before 1990 on the first week of February 2007 at 3rd Floor Gonzales Hall, UP Diliman, Quezon.

Transcript of Records (TOR), Certificate of Employment and Service Record and contact details should be submitted to the ILIS for evaluation as soon as possible to be included in the final list of participants. The participant may not have to attend all 6 sessions, as the ILIS will recommend the subject/s each participant will take so as to concentrate on the subject he/she is weak. Course fee is P1500 per week, wherein one subject will be covered each week. In addition, all requirements to be submitted to apply for the Board Exam for Librarians at the Philippine Regulation Commission (PRC) should be ready before the end of the course. ILIS will certify their attendance and completion of the Crash Program and endorse their application.

Read to Live: Read or Die Convention (RodCon)2007

In pursuit of making an independent, strategic and practical contribution to the creation of a literate society, Read or Die, a Filipino book club founded in 2005, organizes the “Read or Die Convention 2007.” (Chat Alejandro, Manila Bulletin, 24 January 2007)

Read or Die Inc., in partnership with Powerbooks is organizing a 2-day literary convention entitled RodCon 2007on February 3 and February 4 at the Hotel Intecon, Ayala Avenue, Makati City. The convention seeks to bring together readers, writers, publishers, government and school organizations and book dealers to highlight the importance of reading and literacy in building an open world for every Filipino through books. All proceeds of the event will be donated to AHON Foundation. The event is supported by the National Book Development Board, the Department of Education and UNICEF.
