APRIL 23: World Book and Copyright Day

Last April 19, 2007, Alejandro R. Roces in his column Roses and Thorns in page 13 of the Philippine Star, wrote an article entitled "Books and Roses at Instituto Cervantes". He mentioned that on APRIL 23, 2007, World Book and Copyright Day will be celebrated throughout the world. This celebration was proclaimed by UNESCO through a resolution because April 23 is a symbolic date for world literature. On this date and in the same year of 1616, Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died. It is also the date of birth or death of other prominent authors such as Maurice Druon, K.Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo.

To verify the news made by Roces, please visit www.unesco.org/culture/bookday/ to read complete history and added information. In addition there is a link to download the poster of the Day in high-resolution PDF for your printing and reproduction needs just in case you plan to celebrate World Book and Copyright Day on April 23, 2007 and beyond.
