Current Trends and Best Practices in Collection Development

On the occasion of the Philippine Academic BookFair, the Philippine Association of Academic and Research Librarians (PAARL) in cooperation with the Association of Booksellers for the Academe and the Profession (ABAP) is organizing a half-day forum on "Current Trends and Best Practices in Collection Development" on July 26, 2007 (Thursday) at Function Room-B, SM Megatrade Hall, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City from 1:00pm — 5:00pm.

The forum is intended to update the participants on the underlying concepts and integral components of collection development based on current practices, featuring a timely and systematic method of selection and acquisition of library resources. It will also provide practical tips on how to effectively engage in economical book buying and book pricing awareness. Equally qualified and competent speakers are invited to share their significant views on the topic. PAARL's accomplished Special Project on "Core Collections of Filipiniana Materials" in CD format will likewise be promoted for sale. The project coordinator was invited to further introduce and discuss its contents.

Seminar-Workshop on Emerging Technologies for Libraries

The Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI) and its National Capital Region (NCR) Council is organizing a Seminar-Workshop on Emerging Technologies for Libraries on July 26-28, 2007 at the National Library of the Philippines (NLP) Auditorium, T.M. Kalaw Street, Ermita, Manila.

Dr. Robert D. Stueart, a Fulbright Senior Specialist of the U.S. State Department through Fulbright Commission in the Philippines, was invited to share his expertise. In addition, there will be book dealers and exhibitors who will showcase new technologies and services for the library.

Librarians and information professionals/specialists /managers, library administrators, archivists, library and information science educators, knowledge managers, friends of the libraries and students who want to keep abreast of the latest developments in technologies for libraries are enjoined to come attend the seminar-workshop. The seminar-workshop aims to accomplish the following objectives:
* To inform the participants on the latest technologies that have been applied in library processes and services;
* To update participants on the latest/emerging technologies that are being developed for libraries and;
* To provide a venue of sharing experiences of libraries and librarians and information professionals on the implementation of technologies in their libraries.

The seminar-workshop fee is Three Thousand Pesos (P3,000.00) inclusive of kit, seminar papers, certificates of participation and appearance, lunches and snacks.

Professional Regulation Commission @ 34!

Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) celebrates its 34th year of existence and has assumed a more relevant theme for this year: Service Excellence, Integrity and Commitment. PRC was created in 23 June 1973 by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 223. ALAP @ 35 Forum

The Agricultural Librarians Association of the Philippines (ALAP) held a well attended one day forum last 08 June 2007 at the College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology (CEAT) Library, UP Los Baños, Laguna in celebration of their 35th founding anniversary. The theme for this year anniversary forum is "Empowering Information Professionals for Library 2.0".

Forum on "Digitization of Documents and Resources for Preservation"

The Ortigas Center Library Consortium (OCLC) Inc., in cooperation with Lourdes School of Mandaluyong (LSM) organizing a forum on "Digitization of Documents and Resources for Preservation" on June 28, 2007 from 1:00-5:00 pm at Lourdes School of Mandaluyong, Shaw Blvd., Mandaluyong City.
