PAARL Forum @ ABAP 2019


In line with the 23rd Philippine Academic Book Fair, the Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians, Inc. in cooperation with Academic Booksellers Association of the Philippines (ABAP), will be holding a forum on “Building 21st Century Collections: Approaches and Practices", to be held at the Megamall Trade 1, Bldg B, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City on 24 July 2019, 12:00-4:00PM. The forum aims to provide a fertile learning environment for new ideas , approaches, and enlightened discussion among library and information professionals in the country.

The participants of the forum are expected to (1) gain a better understanding of the new trends, approaches, and practices in acquiring and managing library collections and (2) recognize the strategies of building the 21st century library collections.

In this regard, we would like to invite all librarians, LIS teachers and students, to this forum. There is a registration of Php300 for PAARL members, Php350 for non-members, and Php200 for students to cover snack and certificates. Only limited slots are available. Registration is on first come, first served basis.

We also invite you to join or renew your membership (fees: Ph300, individual; Php1000, institutional).

PAARLNet Convention


PAARL invites all its institutional members to participate in the 2018 PAARLNet Convention with the theme “Collection Development: Trends and Issues” on 01-02 October 2018 at the Asian Institute of Management, 123 Paseo de Roxas, Legazpi Village, Makati City. Attendance to the convention is offered free to PAARL institutional members (i.e., one representative per institution only) with paid membership dues from years 2017 to 2018.

The convention aims to provide a broad overview of what collection development is all about and familiarize participants with current trends and issues on collection development, specifically those that affect academic libraries. Likewise, it intends to equip attendees with the skills necessary to prepare them to carry out collection assessment and evaluation and introduce ways on how they can optimize the use of their limited budget through collaboration/cooperation.

CHED endorsement and CPD points are being applied for this.

PNU-LISAA Seminar-Workshop

To our dearest colleagues in the profession,

Warmest greetings!

The Philippine Normal University Library and Information Science Alumni Association (PNU-LISAA), Inc. will hold a seminar-workshop with the theme, “Beating the Traffic : Prioritizing Collection Development and Information Services in the Hybrid Library Environment”, to be held on May 24-26, 2017 at Balay Indang, Indang, Cavite.

This seminar-workshop is designed to provide participants an emphasis on the collection development function as strategic tool that contributes to information services and other library activities in the attainment of overall library goals. Participants from different hybrid libraries will engage in hands-on activities, guided discussions, and other expert-led exercises intended to help them.

At the end of the sessions, participants will be able to:

1. Better understand the strategies behind the creation of Patron Driven-Acquisition (PDA) and its implementation;
2. Weigh the difference, and pros and cons of using the library space as a repository of print collection and as a social learning space;
3. Update themselves with modern ways of preservation and digitization that are used in various hybrid libraries;
4. Provide useful models and detailed approaches to weeding culled from a wide range of hybrid library settings;
5. Strengthen their skills on modern indexing and abstracting techniques;
6. Examine information through collaborative efforts on document delivery and information services.   

A seminar fee of P5,500.00 will be charged per participant to cover registration fee, accommodation for 3 days and 2 nights, meals, snacks, kits, and certificates of attendance and participation.

Collection Enhancement for the 21st Century

PLAI-Central Luzon Region Librarians Council will conduct a Seminar-Workshop on "Collection Enhancement for the 21st Century : Challenges and Opportunities" on October 19-21, 2011 at Anne Raquel's Resort, Hillside, New Cabalan, Olongapo City.

The aim of the seminar-workshop is to present the importance of collection enhancement in libraries as well as to discuss salient provision in formulating school/university collection development plan.

Registration fee is PhP 4,500.00 for live-in and PhP 4,000.00 for live-out participants inclusive of food, accommodation, handouts and certificates.

Current Trends and Best Practices in Collection Development

On the occasion of the Philippine Academic BookFair, the Philippine Association of Academic and Research Librarians (PAARL) in cooperation with the Association of Booksellers for the Academe and the Profession (ABAP) is organizing a half-day forum on "Current Trends and Best Practices in Collection Development" on July 26, 2007 (Thursday) at Function Room-B, SM Megatrade Hall, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City from 1:00pm — 5:00pm.

The forum is intended to update the participants on the underlying concepts and integral components of collection development based on current practices, featuring a timely and systematic method of selection and acquisition of library resources. It will also provide practical tips on how to effectively engage in economical book buying and book pricing awareness. Equally qualified and competent speakers are invited to share their significant views on the topic. PAARL's accomplished Special Project on "Core Collections of Filipiniana Materials" in CD format will likewise be promoted for sale. The project coordinator was invited to further introduce and discuss its contents.
