37th Gabriel A. Bernardo Memorial Lecture

The Gabriel A. Bernardo Memorial Lecture is the premier and longest running lecture series in the Philippines pertaining to library and information studies. Now on its 37^th year, the lecture continues to celebrate the life, work, and vision of the Doyen of Philippine Librarianship.

Following the leading scholars and practitioners of the profession and in allied fields that have graced the series in the past, this year’s lecture will be given by no less than the Hon. Lourdes David. Her lecture will be on "Education and Leadership in the LIS Profession."

This event is open to the public and will be held on the 16^th of March 2016 (Wednesday) at the U.P. Main Library lobby from 9:00am to 12:00nn.

Philippine Librarians Association, Inc.-Southern Tagalog Region Librarians Council will hold a Seminar-Workshop entitled “PLAI-STRLC Research in Librarianship : Capacity Building to Strengthen Research Culture” on October 7-8, 2015, at El Grande Residencia Hotel and Resort, Brgy. San Carlos, Lipa City.

The seminar-workshop aims to:

a. enhance librarian’s competencies and skills in doing scholarly research;

b. promote the conduct of research as one of the CPD of librarians;

c. encourage proactive involvement in conducting research;

d. increase & improve the quality of paper submission to ReCALIS (Research Congress for the Advancement of Library and Information Services) and others.

In view of this, we would like to invite you and your staff to attend the seminar-workshop. This seminar is open to all library administrators, professional librarians, archivists, Library and Information Science students, and other information providers who want to keep abreast with the latest trends, strategies, and emerging technologies that are being developed and used for libraries and archives. It will also serve as a venue for sharing of experiences among information professionals with regard to best practices on the delivery of library and archival services.

34th Gabriel A. Bernardo Lecture Series

The Gabriel A. Bernardo Memorial Lecture Series is held annually in honor of the late Prof. Gabriel A. Bernardo, the doyen of Philippine Librarianship. He devoted his whole life to the development of librarianship and the training of hundreds of Filipino librarians.

This year's topic is entitled Click...Like...Comment...Share: A Primer on RA 10175 - The Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

Our speaker is Atty. Emma C. Francisco, current Intellectual Property Consultant at Creativelaw and former Director General of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines.

The Philippine Theological Librarians Association (PTLA) is pleased to invite you to attend its 19^th seminar and workshop on April 15-17, 2013, at Central Philippine University, Jaro, Iloilo City.  This year’s theme is focused on Best Practices and Mentoring in Theological Libraries.”  There will be two tracks:

           

                        Track 1 - Best Practices in Theological Libraries

                        Track 2 - Mentoring of Theological Librarians

The seminar is open to all professional and non-professional library personnel of theological seminaries, Christian schools, and church libraries.  The registration fees are:

PGLL Seminar at Bohol Tropics Resort

The Philippine Group of Law Librarians (PGLL) in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and National Committee on Library and Information Services (NCLIS) are pleased to invite you to its Seminar on "Information Power: Building Partnerships" to be held on April 3-5, 2013 at the Bohol Tropics Resort, Graham Ave., Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

Legal information resources are important for all types of Libraries to respond to the needs of people from all walks of life. Building partnerships for legal information is imperative considering complete Philippine legal resources are not available in print. Electronic or digital is the answer to provide the needed services.

The objectives of this seminar are for the participants to be able to know the available legal collection and resources both digital and non-digital; to understand the theories and practices and the management’s role in building partnerships; to know current partnerships being built and support it for its success, and to understand the current the laws and jurisprudence that affect our community and our country.

Librarians (academic, special, school, public, government agencies, information center, lawyers, non-librarians, information managers/personnel, researchers, teachers, LGUs, employees/office staff, barangay officials and students are invited to attend this interesting and informative seminar.

1st Marina G. Dayrit Lecture Series

Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians, Inc. will be holding its first Marina G. Dayrit Lecture Series with the theme of "Library Future: Changes and Challenges." The lecture series, named in honor of our founding president Ms. Marina G. Dayrit, aims to provide a fertile learning environment for new ideas and enlightened discussions among library and information professionals in the country.

The first lecture is entitled "Making Things Easier: New Design Ideas for Better Libraries" to be held at the National Book Stores- Cubao Superbranch, General Roxas St., Araneta Center Cubao, Quezon City on 22 February 2013, 8:00AM to 12:00NN. The objectives are to be able to: (1) understand the revolutionary changes now reshaping the creation and design of library space; (2) discuss the key elements in the library planning and design process; and (3) understand the emerging issues and considerations in library design.

Party-list for Librarians

The Philippine Group of Law Librarians, Inc (PGLL) a national organization of law librarians is sponsoring a forum on “ Party-List for Librarians and Information Professionals” during the Manila International Book Fair on Thursday, 13th September 2012 from 1:00am to 3:00pm at the SMX Convention Center (Meeting Rooms 2 & 3), Pasay City.

Party-list is a national, regional and sectoral parties or organizations or coalitions duly registered with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC). Sectoral representatives work for the special interest or concerns of their sector. There is a party-list for teachers, women, and even security guards that work and advanced their special concerns in Congress. We, librarians and information professionals have to explore this option to further advance the gains achieved by our respected elders in the professions.

A group of librarians have started to work for the formation of a Party-List. It is for this reason that we would like to invite all stakeholders in our beloved profession to attend the forum and give your feedbacks, suggestions, comments, support, etc. on how this movement could materialize.

Collection Enhancement for the 21st Century

PLAI-Central Luzon Region Librarians Council will conduct a Seminar-Workshop on "Collection Enhancement for the 21st Century : Challenges and Opportunities" on October 19-21, 2011 at Anne Raquel's Resort, Hillside, New Cabalan, Olongapo City.
