PLAI-NCRLC Forum @ 37th MIBF: PLAI's 10 Point Agenda : a Call to Action

The Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. – National Capital Region (PLAI-NCR) Librarians Council will hold a Forum on “PLAI’s 10 Point Agenda: A Call To Action” on September 14, 2016 from 8:30-10:30 am at Meeting Rooms 4&5, SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City during the 37^th Manila International Book Fair on 14-18 September 2016.

In this Forum, the 10 Point Action Agenda for the Library Profession will be discussed which was the output of the focus group discussions (FGD) during the 1^st Philippine Librarians Summit held at UST last March 2015. It also aims to provide a venue for follow-up discussion on how to implement the Action Agenda. Ms. Elizabeth P. Peralejo, former PLAI National President, is the resource person to present the 10 point action agenda and lead in the further discussion.

A minimal fee of Php 250.00 for PLAI members; PhP 300.00 for Non-PLAI members, and PhP 150.00 for students will be collected.

1st Philippine Librarians Summit : Addressing Issues and Concerns

The PLAI-NCR Librarians Council, in partnership with the University of Santo Tomas-Department of Library and Information Science, invites you to the 1st Philippine Librarians Summit: Addressing Issues and Concerns to be held on March 17-18, 2016 at the Benavidez Auditorium, Benavidez Bldg., University of Santo Tomas, Espana, Manila. This is a two-day Summit that aims to address the various issues and concerns faced by library and information professionals more than a decade after the implementation of Republic Act 9246 or the Act to Modernize the Practice of Librarianship in the Philippines. Specifically, the Summit has the following objectives:

1. To highlight and clarify the issues and concerns affecting librarians and the library profession in the country;
2. To invite representatives from government agencies and other entities to give their comments/response to the specific issues and concerns;
3. To encourage industry leaders and other stakeholders to discuss possible solutions and recommendations that would address the problems presented;
4. To come up with an Action Agenda for the library profession in the Philippines.

Participants to the summit are expected to gain an awareness of the real issues and concerns affecting the library profession. This Summit can also provide the venue for increased dialogue, understanding, and consensus among the officers and members of various library associations, thus come up with recommendations for policy formulations and/or amendments to RA 9246 as well as an Action Agenda for the library profession. The registration fees are as follows: Non-PLAI Member - P2,000; PLAI Member – P1,500; Student P1,000. This shall cover kits, meals (2 lunches, 2 a.m. snacks and 2 p.m. snacks), and certificate of participation.

Since the venue can only accommodate a limited number, interested participants are strongly advised to pre-register and pay the corresponding amount. UP FLIPP LibSpeak 2016 : Redefining LIS

UP Future Library and Information Professionals of the Philippines (UP FLIPP), in partnership with The University Library and Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. - National Capital Region Librarians Council (PLAI -NCRLC) proudly presents LibSpeak 2016: Redefining LIS.

LibSpeak 2016: Redefining LIS will be held on February 1, 2016 at the UP Main Library lobby, Gonzalez Hall, University of the Philippines – Diliman, Quezon City. Registration will start at 7:30 AM. The event is open to the general public, with high school students as the contestants. It also aims to showcase current initiatives in building more libraries in the country and how librarians, LIS educators and students can help and contribute to these efforts. There will be an overview of the key issues on ASEAN Integration by Dr. Dominique R. Tutay, OIC Director, Bureau of Labor and Employment, DOLE.

Transforming Libraries and Archives : Valuing Best Practices

The Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. - National Capital Region Librarians Council is pleased to invite you to a two-day seminar on the theme “Transforming Libraries and Archives : Valuing Best Practices”. This will be held on June 20-21, 2013 at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), T. M. Kalaw, Manila.

This seminar is open to all library administrators, professional librarians, archivists, Library and Information Science students, and other information providers who want to keep abreast with the latest trends, strategies, and emerging technologies that are being developed and used for libraries and archives. It will also serve as a venue for sharing of experiences among information professionals with regard to best practices on the delivery of library and archival services.

In celebration of its 26th Founding Anniversary, is sponsoring a Forum on "Legal Information Networks : International Experience and Perspective" and General Assembly and Induction of the Newly Elected Officers and Board on October 19, 2007, Monday, 8:00 A.M.– 12:00 Noon at the University of the Philippines (U.P.), College ofLaw, Ambion Room, Malcolm Hall, Diliman, Quezon City.

The speaker is Dr. Holger Knudsen, the Immediate Past President of the International Association of Law Libraries (IALL) and the Library Director of Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg, Germany, will talk about "Legal Information Networks: International Experience and Perspective. "

The forum aims to define the current status and inter-relationships of different types of law libraries and librarians (corporate, special, court, government agency, hospital, institutional, law, newspaper, etc.; to explore the role of law libraries and librarians in the network plan for multi-type library cooperation and resource- sharing; and to assist in furthering the fine-tuning and development of the multi-type library network.
