Libraries in Communities : Connecting, Engaging, Transforming

13 August 2015

‘Literacy is more important than ever it was, in this world of text and email, a world of written information. We need to read and write, we need global citizens who can read comfortably, comprehend what they are reading, understand nuance, and make themselves understood. Libraries really are the gates to the future.’—Neil Gaiman

Dear colleague/s:

The Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. – National Capital Region (PLAI-NCR) Librarians Council will conduct a forum entitled “Libraries in Communities: Connecting, Engaging, Transforming” on September 17, 2015 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at Meeting Rooms 4&5, SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City. This activity is in connection with the 36th Manila International Book Fair come 16-20 September 2015.

In this regard, we would like to invite you to attend this Forum which aims to emphasize the continuing and enduring value of libraries in communities in linking people to information and advocating literacy and life-long learning. It also aims to showcase current initiatives in building more libraries in the country and how librarians, LIS educators and students can help and contribute to these efforts. We have invited Mr. Quintin Jose V. Pastrana, Founder and Managing Director of Library Renewal Partnership, whom we believe is the best resource person to share and testify on the continuing value and importance of libraries in the community.

Participants to this forum will be assessed a minimal fee of Php 250.00 for PLAI members; PhP 300.00 for Non-PLAI members, and PhP 150.00 for students. This shall cover the registration, certificate of attendance and snacks. Attached is a program for your perusal. Please confirm your attendance on or before 14 September. You can send email to elvira.lapuz@gmail.com; venusboyer@yahoo.com; sengm67@yahoo.com or ddcarungui@nlp.gov.ph
