October Happenings

We are posting as early as now other tentatively set events for October so as to guide us and possibly calendar them ahead of time as part of our first semester-ender activities and allot / re-allocate / request budget for our attendance. Details are still preliminary and changes are expected.

First, an email notice for a PTLS-Forum:
August 17, 2007

Dear Colleague:

Please be informed that the PATLS will hold a forum, tentatively set on October 31, 2007, at a venue that will be announced later. We shall invite the writers of the completed modules for the LIS curriculum to present their modules and suggest ways of making these interesting for our students.

We shall also report to the PATLS members the results of a discussion between the members of the Board and some stakeholders on how to improve the MLIS curriculum. We, likewise, hope to create a committee that will propose policies and standards for graduate programs in LIS.

We shall inform you of the details after our September 12 Board meeting.

Thank you very much on behalf of the PATLS Board,

(Sgd.) Vyva Victoria M. Aguirre
Chair, PATLS Conference Committee
U.P. School of Library and Information Studies

From Ma'am Vyva Aguirre, PATLS Vice-President email:

The PATLS will hold a forum to present selected teaching modules for LIS. We shall be inviting some of the module writers to present significant portions of the modules and suggest ways by which these can be made more interesting to LIS students.

In the same venue, we shall form a committee that will look into the curriculum of MLIS with a view of standardizing this. Your participation will be a great help towards a better MLIS education.

The forum will be held on November 10, 2007, from 9:00-12:00 am at the PNU Library conference room. We shall be charging a token fee (to be announced later) for the venue and snacks.

Different topics has been discussed then and now and yet have you asked yourselves, are these topics what your target audience needs?

I hope that some researchers/librarians/teachers and the likes really get into serious needs assessment process that involves an inventory of what the majority of the clients would be needing in this point in time.

From that as starting point, pooling resource speakers and sponsorship of different associations and groups ideally should be consolidated such that there is no duplication but a more complimentary and unified seminar that encompasses what an individual person need to fully develop the potentials and skills of every participant

It might be impossible at a first glance, but I challenge you to make that difference. Will you take on that challenge or forever live in the caves of yester years?
