37th Gabriel A. Bernardo Memorial Lecture

The Gabriel A. Bernardo Memorial Lecture is the premier and longest running lecture series in the Philippines pertaining to library and information studies. Now on its 37^th year, the lecture continues to celebrate the life, work, and vision of the Doyen of Philippine Librarianship.

Following the leading scholars and practitioners of the profession and in allied fields that have graced the series in the past, this year’s lecture will be given by no less than the Hon. Lourdes David. Her lecture will be on "Education and Leadership in the LIS Profession."

This event is open to the public and will be held on the 16^th of March 2016 (Wednesday) at the U.P. Main Library lobby from 9:00am to 12:00nn.

PAASCU James J. Meany Service Awardees

The Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities recognized Dr. Marilou Tadlip and Hon. Lourdes T. David (tertiary level), Ms Fabiana Macalalad of St. Joseph College of Quezon City (HS level), Ms Charito Basagre of La Salle Greenhills, Ms Maria Victoria Dela Cruz of Ateneo de Manila Grade School and Ms Rosemarie Malang of St. Mary’s Academy of Guagua, Pampanga (GS level) as James J. Meany Service Awardees during the PAASCU General Assembly last 12 February 2016 held at Ateneo de Davao University. The Plaque of Recognition was awarded by Joel E. Tabora, SJ (PAASCU President) “for faithful service rendered to the Association and an enduring commitment to the cause of quality education in the Philippines”. Nera, David, Verzosa and Fresnido Honored During the PLAI-STRLC’s 10th Year Anniversary

On the 10^th year anniversary of PLAI-Southern Tagalog Region Librarians Council’s, four (4) pillars of the library profession in the country have been honored, namely: (1) Prof. Corazon M. Nera, Library Director of Lyceum University; (2) Mrs. Anna Maria B. Fresnido, Director, De la Salle– Taft; (3) Mrs. Fe Angela Ma. Versoza, Retired Archivist , De La Salle-Taft; and  (4) Prof. Lourdes T. David, a member of the BFL and Library Consultant, Rizal Library, Ateneo De Manila University.

The awardees were honored with a “Special Service Award” in recognition of their dedicated, devoted and valuable services rendered as resource person in a number of times in any Council seminar, conferences, fora held thru the years; for their continued support to the ideals, principles and activities of the Regional Council.  It is therefore, fitting and proper to recognize these four women of integrity, expertise, professionalism and unselfish dedication in the practice of the librarianship profession during the Council 10^th year anniversary celebration and National Conference with the theme : "The Next Generation Library Managers:  Bringing our the Best Leaders in Library and Information Science Profession which was held last July 30-31, 2014 at Camp Allen, Sta. Cruz, Laguna.

Other awardees honored & contribution recognized during the same occasion were former presidents of the various organized/affiliated Provincial Chapters of STRLC (CLASS, ALLPI, LAQuep,PI, LAB, RLA, OMLA, PLA, MLA), for their notable and exemplary contribution to the steady growth of the Provincial Chapter in particular, the STRLC and PLAI in general.
