28th MIBF Activities Schedule

Last August 4, 2007 we posted the Activities during the 28th MIBF and since then it is the most viewed post in this blog as per Sitemeter statistics partly because we have been active in directing queries posted in PAARL yahoogroups & Filipino Librarian googlegroups to this post. We have collated all available information that come to our attention and in the absence of official MIBF activity schedule that will be available hopefully before the official opening, the following activities might be worth of our time attending for our professional growth and continuing education aside from selecting/acquiring books for our institution.

The 28th Manila International Bookfair will be held from August 29 - September 2, 2007 at the World Trade Center Metro Manila Financial Center Area, Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue cor. Diosdado Macapagal Blvd., Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. This year's theme is "Inspire. Aspire. Read." Exhibit is open from 10:00 A.M till 8:00 P.M., daily.


Pre 28th MIBF Conference:

The BDAP publishing conference entitled "Books Across South East Asia" on August 28-29, 2007 at the Bayview Park Hotel, Manila.


August 29, 2007 (Wednesday) 1st Day

PAARL forum on "User Education and Information Literacy: Current Practices and Innovative Strategies" at Function Room-B, from 9:00am — 12:00nn.

The speaker is Ms. Fe Angela M. Versoza. Registration fee of P150.00 for non-members, P100.00 for members and P50.00 for library science students.


UPLSAA lecture entitled "Marketing Strategies for School Libraries" at Function Room A, from 10AM.

The speakers are: Ms. Enoy Ferriol of Scholastic Books and Ms. Edes Vijandre of Miriam College Grade School Library. Registration fee: P100(UPLSAA members)/ P150(non-members)/ P50 for undergraduate students, valid school ID must be presented at the registration booth.


ce-Logic, a subsidiary of C&E Publishing, Inc. free seminar on "Empowering Libraries : The Effect of Modernization and Emerging Technologies in the Philippines" from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

The resource speaker is Mrs. Corazon Nera (BFL Chair).

ce-Logic will also launch their latest online and hardware products at the seminar.


Official 28th MIFB Opening Program, 4:00 PM


August 30, 2007 (Thursday) 2nd Day

PLAI-NCRLC in cooperation with National Book Store and Anvil Publishing, Inc. forum entitled “Managing Disasters for Libraries” from 10AM - 2PM Function Hall C.

Resource Speaker is Prof. Heather Mansell, Preservation Consultant and Secretary of State Library of New South Wales, Australia.

Registration fee of P100 for professionals and P50.00 for students.


Ms. Zarah Gagatiga talk entitled "Children, Teens and Reading in the Time of IT" from 3:30 - 4:30 PM, at the Function Room A.


August 31 - September 2 2007 (Fri-Sun) 3rd-5th Day
