PLAI-STRLC Resolution no. 2006-04

PLAI-STRLC RESOLUTION PRESENTED AND APPROVED DURING THE 3RD GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING HELD AT CAPUCHIN RETREAT HOUSE, LIPA CITY, BATANGAS ON 26 SEPTEMBER 2006.

PLAI-STRLC Resolution no. 2006-04

USE OF THE INITIAL RL (Registered Librarian) AFTER THE NAME OF REGISTERED LIBRARIAN

The use of initials before or after a name is an existing practice in some profession (e.g. Law, Nutrition, Nurse, Engineer, etc.) that in past several librarian professional seminars, gatherings, and meetings, a proposal to adopt a similar initials for the licensed librarian was felt needed. But the idea didn’t take off until the STRLC officers brainstormed on the idea after receiving feedback from librarians in the government sector that they experienced discrimination from other profession in their institution with similar PRC supervised board license.

After several brainstorming session, the officer adopted the position of why not use similar initials to further drum beat awareness of the profession and as form of marketing our hard won recognition as one the profession that requires examination before anyone is allowed to practice in the country. The initials of LL (licensed librarian), RIP (Registered Information Professional), and those pattern after the Physical & Occupational therapist, RLRP (Registered librarian of the Republic of the Philippines) were considered. LL was initially favored until someone opined that it could be mistaken for “loko-loko” that finally the officers settled for RL.

It was further agreed by the officers that the proposal be brought to the attention of the GA for approval and widespread adoption.

WHEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED AND ADOPTED UNANIMOUSLY WITHOUT DISSENT OR ABSTENTION BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY THAT REGISTERED LIBRARIANS IN REGION IV ARE ENCOURAGE TO USE THE INITIAL OF RL IMMEDIATELY AFTER THEIR LASTNAME TO PROMOTE AWARENESS AND RESPECT FOR THE PROFESSION.
