Panawagan : PLAI Membership

Mr Michael A. Pinto, RL, the new chair of the PLAI-House of Delegates, in an earlier email posted via PAARLyahoogroups urged all stakeholders of PLAI to renew/update their membership in the association. Reproduced below is the fulltext of the "panawagan" mainly for the benefit of those not members of the yahoogroups for their timely information and for the widest possible dissemination of the announcement and corresponding action of all concerned.

House of Delegates Chairman - PLAI

Suggestion: Maybe we can provide a list of all the Treasurers of the Regional Councils together with their contacts (email or phone numbers) and if there is any bank account number members can deposit their membership fee then provide a means to send the Official Receipt to the members. In this way, many of us will be encouraged to pay our annual membership fee! Kudos to all of you! God bless!

Since enrollment to PLAI Lifetime membership is suspended indefinitely, members who have attained capacity to pay can advance their payment of annual membership dues to relieve them of yearly renewal payment. It is a "win win" situation, both for the concerned member and PLAI.

For e.g., a member could pay for 5 years, PLAI or the Regional Council can issue a certificate of membership in good standing for that particular covered period of advanced payment. So if a member work for abroad, he or she could still be considered member of good standing. Anyway, with email and other social networking tools, members in any part of the world could still participate in the affairs of the association. Likewise, there is an assurance that the name of paid members will be reflected in the roster of librarians submitted annually to PRC as a requirement for the renewal of PLAI as an accredited professional association.

To prevent misuse of advance payment by current officers, a stipulation could be drafted that only the current year dues could be use for the operational expenses of the association while the remaining amount to be deposited in a trust fund or similar arrangement so that succeeding set of officers will have access to standby funding for operational expenses and less hassle of where to source such funds.
