7 Books that Encourage Father-Child Bonding

Here's a list of books that are perfect for cuddle and read-aloud time
with Dad! by Tina Santiago-Rodriguez

1. Daddy Hugs
Written and illustrated by Karen Katz

This classic board book is perfect for daddies to read aloud to bab ies and toddlers. With its simple text and beautiful illustrations, you can also use it to introduce simple counting as Daddy gives Baby hugs to say “I love you!”.

2. Just Me and My Dad
Written and illustrated by Mercer Mayer

Featuring the well-loved Little Critter picture book characters, this book recounts the adventures of a father and son as they go on a camping trip. In spite of Little Critter’s boo-boos during the trip, he and his dad have fun putting up their tent, catching fish for dinner, and sleeping beneath the stars. Your kids will want Dad reading this over and over to them!

3. My Daddy! My One and Only!
Written by Zarah Gagatiga, illustrated by Jomike Tejido

This well-illustrated book features a simple story about a boy who envies the toys and cool gadgets his classmate brags about, which are gifts from his classmate’s father. He wonders what gifts his own father has for him, and eventually realizes how precious they actually are — the gifts of time, laughter, and presence. Written by a teacher, school librarian, and reading and literacy advocate, this bilingual book would make a great addition to your child’s library!

4. The Kiss That Missed
Written and illustrated by David Melling

This well-illustrated book is a perfect bedtime storybook for dads to read aloud to little ones. It tells of how a young prince’s dad is almost always in a hurry — even when blowing his son a bedtime kiss, which “misses” and flies out the window! The king sends a knight out to bring it back, resulting in a fun and charming adventure, which ends with a reminder for fathers to “slow down” especially when it comes to making memories with their kids!

5. Guess How Much I Love You
Written by Sam McBratney, illustrated by Anita Jeram

This classic picture book tells the story of how Little Nutbrown Hare asks his father, Big Nutbrown Hare, to guess how much he loves him. It becomes sort of like a “competition” between father and child, with Big Nutbrown Hare showing Little Nutbrown Hare just how high and far his love is. This is another must-have in your child’s library!

6. Just In Case You Ever Wonder
Written by Max Lucado, illustrated by Toni Goffe

This beautifully illustrated book shows a father’s unconditional love for his child. Its heartwarming message of love, comfort and protection shows children that even though they will grow and change, their father will always be there for them. Since the illustrations show a father interacting with his daughter, this will be perfect for you if you have little girls!

7. Meet My Superdad
Written by Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan, illustrated by Isa Natividad

This endearing book written by local celebrity mom Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan tells the story of how Donny tells his friends about how “super” his dad is — not because of any special “powers,” but because of all the special things he does for his family.
