Gintong Aklat Awards
The Gintong Aklat Awards (established in 1981) are given out every two years to outstanding publishers. Managed by the Book Development Association of the Philippines (BDAP), the awards are meant to recognize excellence in bookmaking.
The objective of the Awards:
- to recognize and encourage the production of quality books that are excellent in all aspects of bookmaking.
Specific areas for recognition
- book production (printing, binding, etc.),
- content (writing and editing) and
- book design.
The contest categories are:
1. Literature in Filipino-fiction, non-fiction, poetry, literary criticism and anthology
2. Literature in English- fiction, non-fiction, poetry, literary criticism and anthology
3. Arts and Humanities
4. Food- cookbooks, culinary history, food research
5. Natural Sciences
6. Social Sciences
7. Inspiration and Self-Help

Books Across South East Asia Conference
The Book Development Association of the Philippines has organized a book publishing conference entitled "Books Across South East Asia" to be held on August 28-29, 2007 at the Bayview Park Hotel, Manila, which will also coincide with the Manila International Book Fair, August 29-September 3, 2007 at the World Trade Center, Roxas Boulevard, Manila.
The objective of the conference is to deepen in the minds and hearts of various sectors of society in the different nations of Southeast Asia public awareness of books written and published by, and in, one another’s country. It will also be venue where educators (public and private, all levels), librarians, book publishers and sellers, writers, editors, artists (designers and illustrators), university presses, government agencies involved in education, social welfare, and trade, book reading advocates, corporations and their foundations, and entrepreneurs of the region can dialogue.
