CLASS Seminar on Application of new Cataloging Policy in Libraries

Warm greetings from the Association!

The Cavite Librarians Association, (CLASS) Inc. in coordination with the De La Salle University--DasmariƱas (DLSU-D) will hold a seminar on “Application of New Cataloging Policy (RDA) in Libraries” which will be held on May 22, 2015 at Aklatang Emilio Aguinaldo, DLSU-DasmariƱas, Cavite from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. 

The main objective of the seminar is to cascade the new adopted cataloging policy statements and RDA guidelines for Philippine libraries in replacement of the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR2) in the province of Cavite. 

Target participants are Librarians and Teacher-Librarians from the private public schools/institutions in Cavite. A fee of PhP 500.00 will be collected to cover lunch, snacks, certificate of participation, certificate of appearance for public/government employees, and other incidental expenses. For those who want to renew their membership for 2015, a separate amount of PhP 100.00 will be collected.

Call for Survey Participation : RDA study

I am a graduate student from the University of the Philippines Diliman, conducting a study entitled: Resource Description and Access in Philippine Academic Libraries: A Study on Implementation, Awareness, Perception and Acceptance. I am currently in the stage of gathering data from academic librarians from all over the Philippines.

Part of my data gathering procedure includes conducting an online survey for academic librarians, to determine their awareness, views and plans as regards RDA implementation. NOCEI Training-Workshop on RDA

Greetings!

The Network of CALABARZON Educational Institutions, Inc. (NOCEI) will be having a two day training-workshop on April 29-30, 2015 entitled “Seminar-Workshop on RDA Policy Adaptation. It will be held at First Asia Institute of Technology & Humanities (FAITH), Tanauan, Batangas.

RDA is an important building block in the creation of better catalogues and resource discovery systems. It provides for the creation of metadata which meets users' needs for data content and also facilitates machine manipulation of that data for searching and display. Recently, PAARL has published the RDA Policy Statement and Guidelines for Philippine Libraries, thus, the principal aim of this 2-days training workshop is geared towards full implementation of RDA Standards for Philippine Libraries and Information Centers among institutions.

The specific objectives are as follows:

1. Address the learning or knowledge gap on the new cataloging standard;

2. Enable participants to develop a working knowledge on RDA standard for Philippine libraries and information centers; and

3. Creation of task force/working group on the implementation of the RDA standard among NOCEI member institutions.

We are inviting your librarians, library staff, or any representative from your institution to participate in this activity.

The following registration fee shall be charged participants:

Live in : 1,800.00 (kit, meals from April 29 snacks-April 30 snacks, accommodation and other administrative expenses)

Live-out : 1,500.00 (kit, April 29-30 am/pm snacks & lunch & other administrative expenses)

South Manila Educational Consortium RDA Training-Workshop

Greetings! The South Manila Educational Consortium - Library Committee will be holding a seminar on the topic "RDA Training Workshop for Librarians". This professional activity will be held on February 27, 2015 (Friday), 8:00am to 5:00pm at The Learning Commons, De La Salle University, Taft Avenue, Manila.

The seminar aims to give an overview and identify changes from Anglo-American Cataloging Rules 2 (AACR2) to Resource Description and Access (RDA). It will also give participants a better understanding in the adoption of the RDA for the different types of library materials. This activity is especially intended for those who have not attended any RDA seminar, also, Library and Information Science students are welcome to this event.

A registration fee of P500.00 will be charged to each participant to cover meals (snacks and lunch) and certificates; kits will not be provided, however, the presentation will be sent online. Payments may be made by cash of check payable to De La Salle University.

RDA Lecture/Training @ NTC

The MAED-LIS graduate students of The National Teachers College would like to invite you to a lecture/training on the topic “Resource Description and Acces (RDA)” on February 15, 2014 (Saturday) from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Lecture Room of The National Teachers College. Our invited speaker is Prof. Corazon M. Nera, former Chair, Board for Librarians and Director of Lyceum of the Philippines University. Seminar-Workshop on RDA @ Naga City


This undertaking is part of the commitment of Ateneo de Naga University and  Ms. Federico to conduct a regional re-echo of the inputs on PAARL Train-the-Trainor Workshop held on 3-5 April 2013 at  De La Salle University. Also, it aims to enlighten librarians/library technicians on the use of rules on transcription in organizing resources as prescribed in RDA. Furthermore, it seeks to provide updates on the InfoLib Library System as a RDA compliant.

We encourage all cataloguers, librarians of different colleges and universities in the Bicol Region as well as Library and Information Science students to actively participate in this seminar-workshop. Also, after this event, we will award the winners of the recently conducted Regional Poster Making Contest. The registration fee is Php2000.00 and a discounted fee of Php1000.00 for students to cover the meals, snacks and other incidental expenses for this event.

LAQuep-L, Inc. 7th Year Anniversary Seminar-Workshop

In celebration of its 7th year anniversary, the Librarians Association of Quezon Province-Lucena Inc. (LAQueP-LInc) have arranged a Seminar-Workshop on “RDA: Introduction and Workshop” to be held at Queen Margarette Hotel Downtown, Lucena City on September 6, 2013. This workshop is designed for librarians, school librarians, library personnel,   library assistants, and para-professionals working in the library.

In this regard, we cordially invite you to this activity. The following objectives are anticipated to be achieved:
  1. To provide introductory concepts on the key features and structure of Resource Description and Access;
  2. To teach the participants on how to transcribe/record elements of manifestations and items using the new rules as prescribed in RDA; and
  3. To inform participants on the importance of RDA and issues leading to it.
Registration fee is Php 600.00 for members and Php 700.00 for non-members to cover the seminar kits, certificates and food. An optional fee of Php 100.00 for those who are interested to be a member for 2013. We will strictly implement One Hundred (100) participants only.
