37th PASLI General Assembly and National Conference


The Philippine Association of School Librarians, Inc.(PASLI), will conduct its 37th General Assembly and National Conference entitled “Preparing the School Library to the Challenges in the New K to 12 Program” on April 22-24, 2015 at Tagaytay International Convention Center, Tagaytay City.

The seminar-workshop aims to help administrators, professional librarians and non-professionals working in both public and private school libraries to:

1. develop a 21st Century research education program in school libraries; 
2. acquire basic skills in information analytics for school libraries; 
3. observe and promote love of the Philippine culture and history.

Registration fees of Php 5,000.00 for live-in participants and Php 4,800.00 for live-out participants will cover expenses for board and lodging, handouts, certificate and other administrative expenses. Reservation is required to ensure a slot.

PASLI 37th General Assembly and National Conference : Call for Conference Paper Proposal


The Philippine Association of School Librarians, Inc. (PASLI) will be conducting its 37th General Assembly and National Conference on April 22-24, 2015 at Tagaytay International Convention Center, Tagaytay City with the theme “Preparing School Library to the Challenges in the new K to 12 Program”.

In this connection, we invite school librarians, teachers, school administrators, educational technologists, and all interested in the field of school librarianship to submit a proposal for paper presentation linked to our conference theme or to the following sub-themes:

21st Century Literacy and School Library:
· Research skills development in school libraries
· Media, Information and Technology Literacy in school libraries

Kto12 Curriculum and the School Library:
· Mother Tongue-based (MTB) information sources
· Use of the library and information in Kto12 schools
· Reading development and Kto12 Program

Technology and the School Library:
· Digital Resources and Services in school libraries
· Mobile technologies and school library services

Librarianship in K to 12 schools:
· Philippine Standards for School Librarianship and the new Kto12 education
· Role of Librarians in the new Kto12 schools

Interested authors should observe the guidelines below when submitting:

1. Paper must be unpublished and written within the last 5 years.
2. Submit an abstract with a minimum of 300 words.
3. Abstract must be in Microsoft Word format, Times New Roman, size 12, single space

Sections to be included:

· Title of Paper
· Name of Presenter
· Institution/Company Affiliation (including address)
· Designation
· Contact Details (phone, email address)
· Paper Abstract
· Author's short bio

4. Submit via email to paslinews@yahoo.com.ph on or before February 28, 2015 with the following as email subject: PASLI 2015 Conference Paper Proposal

Two (2) abstracts will be chosen and their primary authors (one author from each accepted abstract) will be invited to present their papers at the plenary during the 37th National Conference of the Philippine Association of School Librarians, Inc. Authors of accepted abstracts will be notified via email on or before March 15, 2015. Their full papers and presentation materials must be submitted via e-mail by April 15, 2015. Accepted paper presenters will be provided with free registration and full participation in the Conference plus free accommodation and food in the whole duration of the event. Travel to and from the conference site must be shouldered by the paper presenters.

Making Schools Globally Competitive : the K-12 Curriculum

IBC Book Consolidators, Inc., McGraw-Hill Education and Cengage Learning cordially invite you, your Basic Education Principal, Subject Area Coordinators to attend the seminar “Making Schools Globally Competitive” to be held at Seminar Room, Megatrade Hall 1, 5th Level, Mega B, SM Megamall, EDSA, Mandaluyong City on July 9, 2014 from 1:00 PM to 6:30 PM. This is one of the activities during the 18thPhilippine Academic Bookfair.

This seminar is being held in response to the challenges in the implementation of the educational reforms being undertaken by the Department of Education in preparation for the ASEAN integration. It aims to provide  school administrators, subject area coordinators and teachers the  strategies in implementing the K-12 curriculum particularly for Grades 11 and 12 thereby “Making Schools Globally Competitive : The K-12 Curriculum” the topic to be discussed by Dr. Isagani R. Cruz,  multi-awarded poet, writer, educator , former Undersecretary of Education and now President of Manila Times College and DepEd Consultant.

Learning resources for the new breed of visual, technology-savvy students and teachers are relevant in improving the teaching –learning process. Hence, selection of relevant materials are important. This seminar also aims to help participants appreciate “The Role of Libraries and Librarians in Making Schools Globally Competitive”, the topic to be discussed by Hon. Lourdes T. David, multi-awarded librarian , writer, lecturer, former Director of Rizal Library, Ateneo de Manila University and now Member of the Professional Regulatory Board of Librarians.  

Other speakers are Ms. Nouva Daina Bersales, Senior Sales Executive, Cengage Learning Asia and Mr. Dino Danao, Marketing Executive, School and ELL Division of McGraw-Hill Education.

Ms. Bersales will make a presentation on the “Tools and Resources in the Global Age for the Classroom and Beyond” developed by Cengage Learning / National Geographic Learning. Using examples from Cengage Learning’s exciting materials, participants of this seminar will learn how print and media content can be combined in inspiring, innovative ways to bring our world to life and take the students on an unforgettable journey from the classroom to the world.

Mr. Danao will talk on McGraw-Hill’s “Digital Resources for the Globally Competitive K-12 Classroom” being used by international schools all over the world as well as schools in the United States and North America and show samples of some of them that are relevant to the Philippines K-12  curriculum.
