A-LIEP 2015 : Asia-Pacific LIS : Exploring Unity and Diversity


The University of the Philippines - School of Library and Information Studies will be hosting this year’s Asia-Pacific Library and Information Education and Practice (A-LIEP) Conference which will be held from October 28 to 30, 2015 at the Philippine International Convention Center Manila, Philippines. The theme for this year's conference is:

ASIA-PACIFIC LIS: EXPLORING UNITY AND DIVERSITY

The aim of the conference is to bring together speakers and participants to discuss and learn about the different and common practices in LIS education and profession from all over Asia and the Pacific. There are paper and poster presentations in the conference where topics range from Global and Regional practices in LIS education and the profession; trends in research in LIS; developments in LIS services, management concerns and practices of libraries and information centers, cooperation among libraries and information centers, resource sharing; internationalization of LIS and many more.

The UP School of Library and Information Studies would like to present “Kwentuhan Tayo: Storytelling Tips and Strategies” as part of our 2013 Lecture Series. This will be held on 2 March 2013 (Saturday), 1:00p.m., at SLIS Rooms 3 and 4. Librarians, educators, students, and those who are interested to know more about techniques on telling stories to children are invited.

We will be having Ms. Zarah Gagatiga, the Philippine Board on Books for Young People chairwoman, as our resource speaker.

62nd UPLSAA Homecoming & 50th UP-SLIS Anniversary

The 62nd UPLSAA Homecoming & 50th UP-SLIS Anniversary will be on May 19, 2012 from 6:00-9:00 PM at the Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman, QC. The theme of the double celebration is "Balik Tanaw, Balik UP-SLIS : Ang Tahanan nga mga 100% Pinoy Librarians".


Likewise, there is a call for alumni updates, both professional (new work/affiliation, presented a paper or attended a training, new educational degree, etc.) and personal (married, migrated, etc.) to be included in the latest issue of the UPLSAA Newsletter. Please send your updates ASAP.

UP SLIS Review Classes for LLE 2011

The UP School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) announces the offering of two review classes for librarians who will take the licensure examination to be given on November 23 and 24. The review program will be held for 12 Sundays from August 14 to October 30 at SLIS in UP Diliman.

An Intensive Review Course will also be offered for from October 17 to 28 at the same venue.

The reviewers are teachers of library and information studies and practicing librarians from academic, public, special and school libraries, who are experts in their respective fields.

Interested parties are requested to make their reservations early because the number of reviewees to be accepted is limited to 90. They will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Registration fee is P 3,700 excluding food.

LibSpeak is the UP FLIPP’s major and premier event which was pioneered last March 12, 2007 held at U.P. School of Library and Information Studies, Gonzalez Hall, UP Diliman. Geared towards promoting awareness of the current state of Librarianship and Information Science (LIS) in the Philippines and the new image of librarianship, this event was consisted ofconference with selected speakers discussing topics about LIS, and contests (quiz bee [Jr. LIS Wizard], essay writing and poster making contests) for the high school students in the past years. The themes for the competitions run in parallel to the topics of discussion in the conference. Some of the past speakers of the conference were Dr. Juan Buenrostro, Jr., Chief Librarian of Baliuag University, Mr. Vernon Totanes, librarian and PhD student of the University of Toronto, Ms. Zarah Gagatiga, a school librarian, and the Chair of the Philippine Board on Books for Young People, Prof. Salvacion Arlante, University Librarian of the UP Library System, and Mr. Manuel L. Quezon III, columnist and editorial writer of the Philippine Daily Inquirer. This event serves the UP FLIPP’s mission to promote and uplift the LIS field. Now on its fifth year, this annual event of UP FLIPP aims to give people a new, better and holistic perception of the field of Library and Information Science (LIS).

LLE 2007 Review Classes

To help our future colleague a better chance of passing this year LLE, we are helping disseminate review classes schedule our dear examinees may opt to take before that final day of reckoning.

For those who missed to enroll for the UP School of Library and Information Studies review classes that started last August 12 to October 28, 2007, an Intensive Review Course for two weeks will be held from October 15-26, 2007 at UP-SLIS Room 3 & 4. The rest of UP-SLIS announcement:
