In line with the upcoming Manila International Book Fair, several activities has been conceptualized and organized by different groups and associations. We browsed through several blogs, yahoogroups and thought about consolidating the activities that might help us decide what particular day to visit the Book fair:
Philippine Association of Academic and Research Libraries (PAARL) will hold a forum on "User Education and Information Literacy: Current Practices and Innovative Strategies" on August 29, 2007 (Wednesday) at Function Room-B, World Trade Center, Roxas Blvd., Pasay City from 9:00am — 12:00nn. The forum aims to put library user education in perspective and to explore issues relating to the importance of library user education as an essential activity, such as the content, teaching methods, evaluation studies, and problems of current user instruction programs, the impact of these programs, how new strategies have broadened the program to include the concept of information literacy, and how libraries and librarians can respond to the ever-increasing need for developing innovative stmtegies that would prove their value to users with emphasis on delivery of information rather than in warehousing them. In effect, the focus will be placed on output and not assets. The speaker is Ms. Fe Angela M. Versoza. Registration fee of P150.00 for non-members, P100.00 for members and P50.00 for library science students. For inquiries and reservations, please contact LORETO T. GARCIA, @ Tel: 531-8031 loc. 51; Fax: 531-6087; 0927-4106578 or email her loreto.garcia@jru.edu. If you need to download the invitation for this forum, visit the PAARL Yahoogroups and be a member :) (only members get to view the files, photos, and links uploaded)
The following day, August 30, 2007, Ms. Zarah Gagatiga will be having a talk entitled "Children, Teens and Reading in the Time of IT" from 3:30 - 4:30 PM at the Function Room A, World Trade Center, Pasay City. She will be presenting studies and surveys about the reading habits of children as well as activities they do in their leisure time. For more details visit her blog. This activity is sponsored by Read or Die and Powerbooks.
Now, should any member of the Filipino Librarians Google Group decides to visit the Manila Bookfair on any of the dates between August 29 to September, Von Totanes is suggesting that members get to have some identifying mark so that just in case you bumped with each other and recognize someone wearing the same thing, they can approach each other and make a short introduction. This is a good idea to personally meet people behind the postings in the groups and a chance to meet old and new colleagues we can add to our social network.
If you happen to know other activities for the 28th MIBF, please email us at plaistrlc@gmail.com or simply add a comment and we will gladly add them. Thanks!
