Received today the hard copy of the CHED endorsement of PLAI-STRLC "Regional Conference on Empowering Librarians in the 21st Century" and Annual General Assembly on September 24-26, 2008.

Endorsement from DepED and Civil Service Commission will also be posted when we receive the hard copy.

Winning Information Literacy Logo

The winner of the information literacy logo contest was announced recently and Edgar Luy Perez of Havana City, Cuba entry was chosen as the international symbol of IL and it is freely available for download.



About the logo

"The logo communicates, in a simple way, the human ability to both search and access information, not only through traditional means, but also through the use of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies), as it uses graphic resources known all over the world, such as the book and the circle. The first one symbolizes study, and the second, knowledge and information, which today are made more available through informatics, showing with this that its social aim is to communicate.

The book, open and next to the circle, comprises with it a visual metaphor representing those people who have the cognitive tools to reach information in a nimble way, as well as the desire to share this ability."

Ocular Visit at Queen Margarette Hotel

Last July 1, 2008, some members of the Organizing Committee made an initial ocular visit to Queen Margarette Hotel to finalize the venue reservation for the 2008 PLAI-STRLC Regional Conference. After the visit, we were treated to a sumptuous Chinese cuisine served at the Hotel*.

Another ocular visit was conducted last 12 August 2008 being the first part of the agenda of the 7th regular monthly meeting of the 2008 PLAI-STRLC Officers. Majority of the Officers were able to join the Ocular inspection.

2008 Buwan ng Wika

Agosto na! Ito ang buwan ating ipinagdiriwang ang Wikang Pambansa. Isang selebrasyon nagpapahalaga sa ating sariling wika na dapat pagyamanin ng bawat Filipino. Ang tema ngayon 2008 Buwan ng Wika ay "Wika Mo, Wikang Filipino, Wika ng Mundo, Mahalaga!" Pangungunahan ng Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino ang taunang pagdiriwang ayon na rin sa Proklamasyon Blg. 1041 na nilagdaan ni dating Pangulong Fidel V. Ramos noong 1997.

Ayon sa DepEd Memorandum 332 s.2008

Layunin ng pagdiriwang sa taong ito:

a. lalo pang mamulat ang sambayanan sa kahalagahan ng pagpapaunlad, pagpapalaganap, pananaliksik at pagpepreserba ng Wikang Pambansa at ng mga wika sa Pilipinas;

b. Kilalanin ang lahat ng wika bilang mahalagang kasangkapan tungo sa karunungan at kaunlaran;

c. Itampok ang kahalagahan ng wikang pambansa, wikang lokal at ng Ingles para sa etnisidad, identidad, komunikasyon, literasiya at edukasyon ng mga Pilipino;

d. Ipakita ang mga bentahe ng multilingual na patakaran (lokal at global na mga wika) upang makaagapay sa lokal at global na kapaligiran; at

e. Patingkarin ang pandaigdigang taon ng mga wika.

Para sa isang buwang pagdiriwang linguhang hinati-hati ang paksa sa:

Agosto 1-7 Ang mga wika ay mahalagang kasangkapan tungo sa karunungan at kaunlaran.

Agosto 8-15 Wikang kinagisnan susi sa mas malawak na pagkatuto ng Wikang Pambansa at ng wikang Ingles.

Agosto 16-22 Wikang lokal at global sa Pandaigdigan Taon ng mga Wika.

Agosto 23-31 Wika Mo, Wikang Filipino, Wika ng Mundo Mahalaga sa mamamayang Pilipino.

Tayong lahat ay makiisa't makibahagi sa pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa!
