The Association of Special Libraries of the Philippines (ASLP) will hold a seminar with the theme “Managing modern libraries: leadership and sustainability using technology and innovation” from May 20-22, 2015 at Sugarland Hotel, Araneta Ave.Bacolod, Negros Occidental

The main objective of this seminar is to learn how to effectively manage modern libraries. It specifically aims to analyze significant issues in managing modern libraries; present how to address these issues through modern leadership techniques, suitable human resources handling methods, sunshine customer service, creative marketing strategies and effective communication skills; and discuss the role of technology and innovation in leading and sustaining modern libraries.

Today, many baby boomers are retiring, millennials are now making up a considerable part of the workforce. Some are finding themselves in high-ranking positions that require a fair amount of responsibility. On this note, the Philippine Librarians Association Inc. - Southern Tagalog Region Librarians Council (PLAI-STRLC) will be holding a 2-day National Conference on the Next Generation Library Managers : Bringing Out the Best Leaders in Library & Information Science Profession on July 30-31, 2014 at Camp Allen, Sta. Cruz, Laguna.

This conference aims to provide an avenue for scholarly and academic discussions on the traits, personality and work values of the next generation (the millennials) library managers as well as the organizational challenges and opportunities in bringing out the best leaders in library and information science profession. The Next Gen Conference offers a myriad of topics as follows: 1) The Millennial Library Managers : A Quick Look on Their Personality, Expectations, Beliefs and Working Styles 2) Career Development for Millennials : Building Next Gen Leaders; 3) Expected Competencies for 21^st Century Library Managers; 4) Maximizing the Millennials in the Workplace : Organizational Challenges & Future Directions; 5) The 21^st Century Information Landscape : Changing Role and Ethical Issues Affecting the Millennial Library Managers.

Neophyte and seasoned library managers/administrators, LIS faculty, librarians, information professionals and human resource managers from the Southern Tagalog Region and nearby cities, municipalities and regions are cordially invited to participate in this conference.

This conference seeks to facilitate discussions related to leadership and change.

Leadership styles dictate the direction, administration, and management of an organization. Similarly, the combined will and ability of an organization's personnel determines the success of the institution. The talents and knowledge of personnel, with proper training and experience, are honed under the guidance of a leader. 

Change, in any guise or form, ultimately affects the leadership and management of any organization. This change can be political, social, environmental, technological, or economic in nature. Since change is inevitable, it is only proper to analyze and prepare for the things to come.

We welcome proposals on the following topics: library management and leadership, responsive leadership, mentoring, communicating change, and political, economic, social, technological and environmental changes in libraries.

Paper proposals must be submitted on or before March 31, 2014. Proposals must be submitted using the following format:

1. Title of the paper 

2. Topic of the paper (choose one of the topics enumerated above)

3. Paper abstract (should not exceed 250 words)

4. Curriculum vitae with photo (indicate achievements and/or publications for the last five years)

PAARL will be holding a three-day National Summer Conference 2014 with the theme, “Library Leadership & Management : A Foretaste of PAARL’s Leadership Academy for Librarians”. This professional activity will be held at Hotel Essencia, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental on 28-30 April 2014.

Librarians, library administrators, researchers, faculty and students of LIS are invited to participate in the conference. The conference specifically evolves on the following objectives:
