MIBF2019: ASLP Forum on Block chain
This year, ASLP moves ahead of the curve with a novel topic for the Manila International Book Fair happening on September. We believe librarians, information professionals and all and sundry must be kept abreast with the latest developments making noise around the globe. More than the awareness these developments radiate, we avouch the importance of its application and significance to our daily work.

You are invited to join us for a discussion on Blockchain: Revolutionizing Data Privacy and the LIS Profession with the following objectives: (a) gauge understanding on the concepts of blockchain, data privacy and the LIS profession; (b) assimilate connections and impacts of blockchain to data privacy and the LIS Profession; and (c) apply gained knowledge in our personal data protection measures and in our LIS professional practices.
Joan is a qualified lawyer in the Philippines and California, USA, having previously supported the IT/C Group of Baker McKenzie as a Professional Support Lawyer. She has over 6 years of demonstrated experience in implementing global key projects around privacy & information governance, solving complex regulatory compliance problems and addressing global information management issues. She collaborates closely with Baker McKenzie's IPTech practitioners in managing global knowledge initiatives. She was the Associate Editor of Baker McKenzie's Global Privacy & Information Management Handbook (2014-2017 editions) and Baker McKenzie’s Global Data Breach Notification Handbook (2016). Joan has a Juris Doctor from the Ateneo de Manila School of Law.
Eugene was Legislative Library Specialist (Legislative Staff Officer II) at the Legislative Library Service, House of Representatives from 2008 to 2015. He is over-all administrator of the cloud server of the Legislative Library and over-all in charge on the review, installation and administration of the Koha Library System. Through Koha ILS, he was hired as Library Systems Analyst/Consultant by the Food and Agriculture Organization David Lubin Memorial Library in Rome, Italy from April 2015 to December 2015. He worked as Systems Services Librarian of the De La Salle University from May 2018 to March 2019. Moving from the Lower House (House of Representatives in 2015) to the Upper House, he is currently Legislative Staff Officer II at the Senate of the Philippines. Eugene took his MLIS from UP Diliman and ranked 4th in the 2005 Librarian’s Licensure Exam.

UPLSAA Forum @ 39th MIBF : Librarian Fashion
Fresh from the #LibrarianFashion session at the IFLA World Library and Information Congress last month in Kuala Lumpur, Prof. Salvacion Arlante will talk about the global campaign, its vision, and why it aims to start important discussions about librarians, their image, and implications of public perceptions.
Prof. Salvacion Manuel-Arlante who retired as University Librarian/Archivist of the University of the Philippines Diliman, holds a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service and Master of Library Science, both from the University of the Philippines, and an Advanced Course in Library Science and Documentation at the Centre International de Perfectionnement Professionnel et Technique, International Labour Organization, Turin, Italy. Though retired, she is still a professorial lecturer of graduate library science courses at the UP School of Library and Information Studies and she handles library management, collections development, readers services, publishing, archives and records management, marketing library and information services, and Filipiniana historical and archival resources. She is presently Head, Library Department of Centro Escolar University (Manila, Makati and Malolos Campuses) and Chair of the Library and Information Science Program (BLIS, MLIS), School of Education, Liberal Arts, Music and Social Work (SELAMS).

PLAI-NCRLC Forum @ 37th MIBF: PLAI's 10 Point Agenda : a Call to Action
The Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. – National Capital Region (PLAI-NCR) Librarians Council will hold a Forum on “PLAI’s 10 Point Agenda: A Call To Action” on September 14, 2016 from 8:30-10:30 am at Meeting Rooms 4&5, SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City during the 37th Manila International Book Fair on 14-18 September 2016.
In this Forum, the 10 Point Action Agenda for the Library Profession will be discussed which was the output of the focus group discussions (FGD) during the 1st Philippine Librarians Summit held at UST last March 2015. It also aims to provide a venue for follow-up discussion on how to implement the Action Agenda. Ms. Elizabeth P. Peralejo, former PLAI National President, is the resource person to present the 10 point action agenda and lead in the further discussion.
A minimal fee of Php 250.00 for PLAI members; PhP 300.00 for Non-PLAI members, and PhP 150.00 for students will be collected.

This activity is in connection with the 36th Manila International Book Fair come 16-20 September 2015.
This forum aims to emphasize the continuing and enduring value of libraries in communities in linking people to information and advocating literacy and life-long learning. It also aims to showcase current initiatives in building more libraries in the country and how librarians, LIS educators and students can help and contribute to these efforts. Invited speaker is Mr. Quintin Jose V. Pastrana, Founder and Managing Director of Library Renewal Partnership

The Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. – National Capital Region (PLAI-NCR) Librarians Council will conduct a forum entitled “Libraries in Communities: Connecting, Engaging, Transforming” on September 17, 2015 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at Meeting Rooms 4&5, SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City. PLAI-NCRLC Special Forum on ASEAN 2015 : Cross-Border Mobility for Librarians
The Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. - National Capital Region Librarians Council (PLAI-NCRLC) is pleased to invite everyone to a Special Forum on ÄSEAN 2015 : Cross-Border Mobility for Librarians - Opportunity or Threat? "on September 17, 2014, 8:00am - 11:00am, during the 35th Manila International Book Fair, SMX Convention Center, Mall of AsiaComplex, Pasay City. There will be an overview of the key issues on ASEAN Integration by Dr. Dominique R. Tutay, OIC Director, Bureau of Labor and Employment, DOLE.
The PLAI-NCRLC would like to ensure that librarians and other information professionals can respond effectively to the various ASEAN challenges and contribute to the ASEAN's community-building goals.
