NCAA-South 11th Seasons Opening
Librarians are usually included as members of our own institution committees (e.g. Sports) as proof of our flexibility and realibility in whatever task delegated upon us. Hence, it is not a surprise that three (3) of our colleagues in the region were present during the NCAA-South 11th Seasons Opening Program held at San Pablo Colleges today. In the photo: Fr. Paul de Vera of San Beda Alabang and San Beda College-Rizal Campus, Director of the Learning Resouce Center and member of the Management Committee (MANCON) of the NCAA-South, Ms. Edna Popan, Chief Librarian of First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities (FAITH) in Batangas, and Mr. Rene Manlangit, Librarian of the San Pablo Colleges, the host school of the 11th Seasons.
The nine (9) member schools of NCAA-South are (in alphabetical order):
Colegio de San Juan de Letran
De Salle Lipa
Don Bosco Technical College
First Asia Institute of Technology & Humanities
Lyceum of the Philippines University
Philippine Christian University
San Beda Alabang
San Pablo Colleges
University of Perpetual Help System

Pictures: IFLA/FAIFE RD @ PSU-WB: Knowledge for Development Center
The Round table Discussion with the Palawan librarians was gracefully hosted by the PSU-WB KDC. Check out the photos below for a glimpse of what transpired:
The Palawan State University, on its 27th year has amply fulfilled its promise to lead the way. PSU started in March 1972 as Palawan Teachers' College, evolving into Palawan State University by virtue of RA 7818 signed in November 12, 1994. PSU has slowly blossomed into a university that is serving not only the private sector but the government and community as well, with the unflagging support of the staff and unwavering dedication of its faculty to serve the needs of a mushrooming and discriminating clientele. The University is now being acknowledged as a major influence not only in the province but in the region as well.

Featured Library: Western Philippines University Library, Aborlan, Palawan
The Western Philippines University is a state higher education institution located at Aborlan, Palawan. The University began as the Aborlan Farm Settlement School for the Tagbanuas (an indigenous cultural community of Palawan) in 1910. It became the Aborlan Agricultural High School in 1928, and the Palawan Regional Agricultural School in 1960. It was renamed Palawan National School in 1962, and became the Palawan National Agricultural College. Its name was again changed to State Polytechnic College of Palawan in 1995 by virtue of R.A. 8012 , and in 2004 President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed the R.A. 9260 converting it to Western Philippines University.

IFLA-FAIFE Roundtable Discussion with Palawan Librarians
I was privileged to meet around 20 librarians and library staff from the province of Palawan today, August 19, 2009 at the World Bank repository based in Palawan State University, Puerto Princesa, Palawan. A roundtable discussion on the IFLA-FAIFE Internet Manifesto was organized which was followed by an open forum regarding their concerns on CPE , MLIS study through distance education and the revival of the Palawan Librarian Association. The participants represented around 8 public and private schools in Palawan.
Those present participated in the survey questionnaire of IFLA-FAIFE which will be included in the PLAI-STRLC Report. Afterwards, the body agreed to organize a General Assembly for all Palawan librarians and friends sometime in October 2009 to discuss further the revival of their association and elect their officers.
On behalf of PLAI-STRLC President, Marcial R. Batiancila, we would like to express our gratitude to Ms. Maphella Ruado for organizing the meet-up in spite of the short notice and to Ms. Lourdes Salvador for sharing their place. It was informal but very heart warming gathering.
