Sumali sa Gawad KWF sa Sanaysay 2017!

Ang Gawad KWF sa Sanaysay ay bukás sa lahat maliban sa mga kawani ng KWF at kanilang kaanak.

Ang paksa ng sanaysay ay maaaring pagtalakay ng konsepto o resulta ng saliksik sa larang na agham-pangkalikasan, agham panlipunan, matematika, o mga katulad nito.

Kailangang nasusulat sa Filipino ang lahok, orihinal, hindi pa nailalathala, at hindi rin salin mula sa ibang wika. Marapat na hindi ito magkukulang sa 15 pahina at hindi rin sosobra sa 30.

Bilang saliksik, kailangang sumusunod ang paraan ng pagsulat nito sa mga tuntuning nakasaad sa KWF Manwal sa Masinop na Pagsulat.

Ang lahok ay kailangang may apat (4) na kopyang makinilyado o kompiyuterisado (Font-12, Arial), may dobleng espasyo, at may isang pulgadang palugit sa bawat gilid na nakaimprenta sa short bond paper na may laking 8 ½ x 11 pulgada.  Ang soft copy ng lahok ay kailangang ilagay sa isang compact disc (CD).

Kinakailangang nagtataglay lamang ng sagisag-panulat (pen name) ang dokumento, soft copy man o nakaimprentang kopya.

Kasama ng ipapasang lahok ay isang isang selyadong No. 10 envelope na naglalaman ng hiwalay na pormularyo sa paglahok para sa buong detalye ng may-akda, dalawang retrato (2×2) ng kalahok, at maikling biodata.

Anumang pasiya ng Lupon ng Inampalan ay pinal at hindi na maipaghahabol. Lahat ng lahok, nanalo man o  natalo, ay hindi na ibabalik sa mga kalahok at angkin ng KWF ang karapatang mailathala ang mga nagwaging lahok nang walang royalty sa mga may-akda.

Ang gantimpala ay ang sumusunod: una, P30,000.00 at karangalang maging “Mananaysay ng Taon”; pangalawa, P20,000.00; pangatlo, P15,000.00.

17th International Paper Contest for LIS Professionals in Developing countries

Dear All,

The Special Interest Group on International Information Issues (SIG-III) of the Association for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T) hereby announces the opening of its 17th International Paper Contest for LIS Professionals in Developing countries, for the 2017 Annual Meeting, which will take place in Washington DC (Crystal City, Virginia) from October 27- November1,  2017.  https://www.asist.org/events/ annual-meeting/annual-meeting- 2017/.

The theme of the Annual Meeting is: “Diversity of Engagement: Connecting People and Information in the Physical and Virtual Worlds.” This theme provides an opportunity for information science researchers – including academics practitioners, to discuss the impact of their research on industry, government, local/national/global community groups, individuals, information systems, libraries/museums/galleries, and on other practice contexts. It highlights the focus on Applied Research, which recognizes that basic research in information science is also inspired by, and/or connected to, information practice contexts. Papers could discuss issues, policies and case studies on specific aspects of the theme from a local and/or international perspective.

Topics include, but are not limited to the following core areas:

•Impact on Individuals: information behavior, information retrieval, human-computer interaction, social media use, information literacy, etc.

•Impact on Society: digital citizenship, cultural engagement, archival preservation, policy development, copyright, intellectual property, infometrics, information access, etc.

•Impact on Organizations: information architecture, knowledge management, competitive intelligence, linked data and big data, digital curation, records and archives management, etc.

•Impact on Systems & Technology: cloud computing, digital libraries, automatic indexing, social tagging, classification, semantic web, database design, web usability, etc.

•Impact on Information Contexts: health, education, law; environment, agriculture, business, etc.

A panel of judges will select three winners. The panel is composed of Innocent Awasom (Texas Tech University, USA), Shimelis Assefa (University of Denver, USA), Premila Gamage (Institute of Policy Studies of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka), Devendra Dilip Potnis (University of Tennessee at Knoxville, USA) and Fatih Oguz (UNC Greensboro, USA)

Judging criteria:

The papers will be judged on the following:

 - Originality of paper in the developing world and global information ecosystem

 - Relevance to the paper contest theme and

 - Quality of argument, presentation and organization

Eligibility & Information for authors:

Only papers by a principal author who is a citizen of, and resides in a developing country are eligible. Winners of the 2010-2016 contests are not eligible. The papers should be original, unpublished, and submitted in English. We encourage submissions from librarians, information and network specialists, and educators involved in the creation, representation, maintenance, exchange, discovery, delivery, and use of digital information.

Award:

The first-place winner will receive a minimum of $1,000 towards offsetting the costs of attending the 2017 ASIS&T Annual Conference in Washington DC. In addition, all three winners will receive a two-year individual membership in ASIS&T. In case of multiple authors, the principal author will be awarded the ASIS&T membership.

Style:

Call for Entries : 2017 Palanca Awards for Literature

The Carlos Palanca Foundation, Inc. has announced its call for entries to the 67th Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature. This year’s competition is also accepting submissions to the Novel and Nobela categories, which are offered only every two years.

Established in 1950 in honor of Don Carlos Palanca Sr., the Palanca Awards aims to continue developing Philippine literature by providing incentives to writers and serve as a repository of our literary treasures for generations to come.

The regular categories for this year are as follows:

•Novel and Nobela categories

•English Division – Short Story, Short Story for Children, Essay, Poetry, Poetry Written for Children, One-act Play, and Full-length Play;

•Filipino Division – Maikling Kuwento, Maikling Kuwentong Pambata, Sanaysay, Tula, Tulang Para sa mga Bata, Dulang May Isang Yugto, Dulang Ganap ang Haba, and Dulang Pampelikula;

•Regional Languages Division – Short Story-Cebuano, Short Story-Hiligaynon, and Short Story-Ilokano.

Young writers below 18 years old may also begin crafting their entries to the Kabataan Division with the theme “How can the youth contribute to building interest in Philippine culture and literature?” (Kabataan Essay) and “Paano makaaambag ang mga kabataan sa pagsulong ng interes sa kultura at panitikang Pilipino?” (Kabataan Sanaysay).

The contest is open to all Filipino or former Filipino citizens of all ages, except current directors, officers, and employees of the Palanca Foundation. Published and produced works, which were first published or first produced between May 1 2016 to April 30 of the current year and/or unpublished and unproduced works may be entered in the contest.

Contestants may submit only one entry per category. The deadline of submission is on April 30, 2017. Winners will be awarded at a special ceremony to be held on September 1.

POSTER MAKING CONTEST 2017

MECHANICS

1. The poster making contest is open to all public libraries affiliated with the National Library of the Philippines.
2. The poster should be a visualization of the 2017 National Conference of Librarians theme: “The Emerging Libraries: Connect, Collaborate and Build Strong Communities”.
3. Use white illustration board, 15” x 20” in size.
4. Public libraries may use any medium (craypas, water color, crayon, pentel pen, etc.)
5. The entry should be an original work and a certification to this effect from the Local Chief Executive must be submitted together with the public library’s name.
6. The public library’s name and complete address must be written on a separate sheet of paper and stapled or attached at the back of the entry.

7. All entries will become the property of ALPS.
8. The criteria for judging will be as follows:
a. Originality - 35%
b. Pictorial design and composition - 15%
c. Technique - 15%
d. Relevance to the theme - 35%
TOTAL 100%

9. The winners will receive the following prizes :
1st Prize - P5,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition to
the Public Library
2nd Prize - P3,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition to

Call for Entries : 2016 PBBY-Salanga Prize

The Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY) is now accepting entries for the 2016 PBBY-Salanga Prize.

The contest is co-sponsored by the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and The National Library of the Philippines (NLP). The winner shall receive Twenty-Five Thousand Pesos and a medal. Prizes will be awarded in an appropriate ceremony to be held during the celebration of National Children’s Book Day in July 2016.

CONTEST RULES

The contest is open to all Filipino citizens except those who are related to any PBBY member up to the third degree of consanguinity.

Stories should be intended for children aged 6 to 12 years old. The plot and the sequence must be capable of sustaining an illustrated book of 28 to 32 pages.

Entries may be in Filipino or English.

Entries must be in hard copy, double-spaced, on short bond paper. Maximum length is five (5) pages.

A contestant may send in more than one (1) entry.

Each entry must be signed by a pen name only. Five (5) copies of each entry should be placed in an envelope, on the face of which only the pen name of the contestant should appear.

Together with each entry, contestants must submit a second envelope, on the face of which the pen name shall appear. This must contain the contestant’s full name, address, contact numbers, a short literary background, and a notarized certification from the author, vouching for the originality of the entry and for the freedom of the organizers from any liability arising from the infringement of copyright in case of publication, and affirming that the entry or any variant thereof has (a) never been published nor (b) won any other contest i.e. that it has never won 1st, 2nd, 3rd, honorable mention in any other contest or otherwise been awarded a medal, a citation, or included in a publicized list of meritorious entries to a literary contest.

All entries must be sent through snail mail to the PBBY Secretariat, c/o Adarna House, Inc., Scout Torillo cor. Scout Fernandez Sts., Barangay Sacred Heart, Quezon City.

All entries must be received by the PBBY Secretariat no later than 5:00 p.m., December 1, 2015.

Winners will be announced no later than January 25, 2016. Non-winning entries will be disposed of by the PBBY Secretariat.
