Librarians' Leadership Convergence

To all Library/Librarians Association Presidents:

The Professional Regulatory Board for Librarians in cooperation with the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc and in partnership with the Rizal Library, Ateneo de Manila University invites you to the first ever Librarians’ Leadership Convergence: A Consultative Meeting on the Continuing Professional Development, Career Progression, and Research Agenda for Filipino Librarians towards the Mutual Recognition of the Professional Qualifications of Librarians in the ASEAN on June 8-9, 2017 at the 5th floor, Conference Room, Rizal Library, Ateneo de Manila University, Katipunan, Quezon City.

This activity aims to engage all the library association presidents or their representatives and the regional council presidents of PLAI in a discussion towards the formulation of a collaborative professional development and research agenda. Specifically, the activity aims to discuss the following: a) The Philippine Qualifications Framework; b) The CPD Act of 2016 and its IRR;c) The operational guidelines for librarians in the implementation of the CPD Act 2016; d) The PRC Resolution 2016-990; e) Career Progression; and f) Mutual Recognition of Professional Qualifications. Further, this activity will also set the direction of development of the profession through the cooperative formulation of a continuing professional development agenda; a research agenda for the growth of the profession; and a career progression framework for Filipino Librarians.

A minimal registration fee shall be collected amounting to PhP1,000.00 to cover the incidental expenses relative to the convergence. Please take note that accommodation is not included in the registration fee.

A certificate of participation with CPD credit units will be awarded to each participant after the activity.

PLAI-CeLRLC : 12th General Assembly and Forum

The Philippine Librarians Association Inc-Central Luzon Region Librarians Council (PLAI-CeLRLC) in cooperation with the Library Department of Holy Angel University is set to hold its 12th General Assembly and Forum on Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for Librarians on 29 January 2016, Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the G/F Casa Nena, St. Thérèse of Lisieux (STL) Building, Holy Angel University, Angeles City.

The forum aims to: 1) Present the revised guidelines on the continuing professional development (CPD) program for all registered and licensed professionals; and 2) Discuss the guidelines and updates on the CPD for librarians, the CPD instructional design and evaluation and accreditation for CPD providers;

Our invited speaker is Prof. Lourdes T. David, formerly Director, Rizal Library of the Ateneo de Manila University, now Member, Professional Regulatory Board for Librarians of Professional Regulation Commission. 

Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and is free to all PLAI-CeLRLC paid members for 2016 and PhP 100.00 for non-members to cover the speaker’s honoraria, snacks and certificates.

(PLAI) with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts through its National Committee on Libraries and Information Services (NCLIS) and the National Library of the Philippines (NLP), will be conducting its annual National Congress on Nov. 24-27 at the Plaza del Norte Hotel and Convention Center, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte. 

This is in line with this year’s celebration of the Library and Information Services (LIS) Month.
This year’s congress theme is “Asean 2015: Borderless Librarianship, Limitless Opportunities.”

Cross Border Mobility of Librarians in the ASEAN region

On 9 June 2015 the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI) and the Thailand Library Association (TLA) organised a convening prior to the CONSAL (Congress of South East Asian Nations) conference in Bangkok, Thailand. The convening on ASEAN Integration: Cross Border Mobility of Librarians aimed to create a platform for common understanding of ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) Economic and Socio-Cultural Communities, and cross-border mobility of librarians amongst leaders of the library profession in the 10 ASEAN member states.

PLAI Congress 2015


The Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI) in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) through the National Committee on Libraries and Information Services (NCLIS) and the National Library of the Philippines (NLP), will be conducting its annual National Congress on 24-27 November 2015 at the Plaza del Norte Hotel and Convention Center, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

This year’s Congress theme is “ASEAN 2015: Borderless Librarianship, Limitless Opportunities”. The Congress aims to prepare Filipino librarians in responding to the opportunities, challenges and limitless possibilities brought about by ASEAN integration.

In line with this, may we are invite you to attend this year’s National Congress. There will be parallel sessions to be sponsored by different local library associations to discuss topics relevant to different type of libraries (i.e. academic, public, school, and special). Moreover, a General Assembly will be held to present updates and provide a venue for discussion of concerns relating to the Association and to the profession in general.
